About The Position

B. Key Responsibilities • Employ principles of Primary care for management of acute and chronic conditions. • Provide initial evaluation, treatment and management of minor wound care, respiratory illness, gastrointestinal illness, burns, musculoskeletal trauma, dermatological illness, ENT, eye and urological problems. • Provide initial evaluation and ongoing management of chronic diseases, such as, coronary artery disease, atherosclerotic disease, Type I and II diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, PTSD, depression and other chronic medical and psychiatric conditions. • Be present on time for any scheduled tour of duty as documented by physical presence in Primary Care at the scheduled start time. • Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients. • Provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients. • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by the facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee. • Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications and outcome of examinations. • Document care given and select appropriate Evaluation and Management (E&M) procedure codes in the current EHR. Documentation must be sufficient to support both the E&M and procedure codes. Documentation and coding functions must be completed by the end of each patient care encounter. • Attend staff meetings as required by the facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee. • Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalency.
  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Family or Internal Medicine.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.
