About The Position

The Physician (Primary Care) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to Veterans within a team-based environment. The role involves direct patient care, coordination of medical services, and participation in health promotion and disease prevention activities. The physician will work closely with an expanded healthcare team to manage a panel of approximately 900-1000 patients, ensuring high-quality care and support for Veterans' health needs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Familiarity with the VA healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care full time as part of the Primary Care Team (PACT).
  • Oversees and coordinates medical care for a population of Veterans in a group practice setting.
  • Performs initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients using CVT technology and/or face-to-face visits.
  • Provides ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients and screens them for further care needs.
  • Prescribes medications within defined scope of practice and orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and x-rays.
  • Initiates, responds to, and expedites requests for consultations, special tests, and studies.
  • Educates and counsels patients and families on preventive care, medical conditions, and prescribed treatments.
  • Attends staff meetings, team meetings, and completes peer review evaluations.
