About The Position

The Physician is responsible for providing a competent full spectrum of medical services ordinarily understood to be general Primary Care medicine, applicable to adult, pediatrics and Gyn patients. The Physician agrees to provide direct medical services for patients as scheduled by HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc., which may include adult, pediatrics, and Gyn patients.  The medical services provided by the Physician shall be as such to assure compliance with requirements of all applicable licensing and regulatory bodies applicable to the practice of medicine and to assure every patient receives the best possible medical care, medical information, and/or referral to an appropriate facility. The Physician recognizes his/her responsibility to be responsive to patient inquiry, complaints, and concerns regarding care in a professional manner. The Physician must perform medical services with professional competence and judgment, that is at all times compliant with currently accepted medical practices and standard of care within the Physician’s profession.  The Physician shall exercise independent medical judgment in clinical decision-making.  The Physician must prepare and complete medical records on a timely basis in accordance with HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc. policies and procedures. The medical record documentation shall be complete and accurate with respect to services and treatment rendered by the Physician to any patient seen at HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc. The medical records must also be adequate for appropriate billing for all services provided.  This care includes a commitment to provide ambulatory services within HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc.’s facilities, to participate in the after-hour coverage for patients affiliated with HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc. to assure patients have 24 hour coverage on an as-needed basis. The Physician may also be required to participate in evening and weekend clinics as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Medicine or Doctorate of Osteopathy degree plus three (3) years of experience in the practice of medicine which shall include the successful completion of an accredited program of residency training.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Kentucky and so licensed prior to appointment as required by KRS 311.560.
  • An employee or contract Physician is expected to hold at all times a Kentucky medical license and a valid DEA certificate, which credentials and associated fees are the sole responsibility of the Physician.
  • Likewise, an employee or contract Physician is required to maintain continuing medical education in quantity to satisfy requirements for re-licensure.
  • An employee or contract Physician is to be Board Certified in a medical specialty appropriate for Primary Care, or meet one of the following requirements:  1) is Board eligible and will complete the process of eligibility and certification within a timetable agreed on at the time of hiring, or 2) provides professional references to demonstrate competency equivalent to Board certification.
  • This position requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and intermediate computer literacy.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practice of the specialty or sub-specialty of medicine in which the Physician is certified or eligible for certification
  • A broad and in-depth knowledge of preventive care services within the Physician’s specialty
  • A broad and in-depth ability to diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and chronic disorders within the Physician’s scope of practice
  • Sufficient working knowledge of computers to effectively use an electronic medical records system
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern medicine and health techniques
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and theories shaping the development of new systems for the delivery of health services
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting health services
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practice of the specialty or sub-specialty of medicine in which certified
  • Ability to write and interpret professional, technical, and administrative reports and papers
  • Ability to use good judgment
  • Incumbent must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Incumbent must possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Incumbent must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Incumbent must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Incumbent must possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • An employee Physician is expected to hold at all times a Kentucky medical license and a valid DEA certificate, which credentials and associated fees are the sole responsibility of the Physician.
  • Likewise, an employee Physician is required to maintain continuing medical education in quantity to satisfy requirements for re-licensure. Current CPR is required and must be maintained throughout the duration of this position.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in Kentucky and so licensed prior to appointment as required by KRS 311.560.

Responsibilities

  • Provide recommended age appropriate preventive care services that include history taking, examinations, vaccinations, counseling, screenings, testing, and other services as recommended by the United States Task Force on Preventative Services for adult patients and Bright Futures and the American Academy of Pediatrics for pediatric patients
  • Obtain appropriate histories, clinical examinations, diagnostic tests, and make appropriate referrals for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic disorders
  • Review laboratory test results, radiology reports, and consultation reports in a timely manner and provide patient with information and treatment recommendations based on these reports
  • Complete medical records within 48 hours of the patient visit with documentation in the medical record being complete and appropriate for the services provided and satisfactory for billing for the visit
  • Complete appropriate documents relevant to care provided to HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc. patients; i.e., insurance forms, medical statements, certificates of medical necessity, etc.
  • Compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
  • Must adhere to HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc.’s Code of Ethics and Principles of Practice
  • Meet HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc.’s productivity standards
  • Meet HealthFIRST Bluegrass Inc. quality standards
  • Attend and participate in Medical Staff meetings
  • Provide input on the performance evaluation of staff as needed
  • Participate in the preceptorship of assigned students and residents and evaluation of their performance
  • Participate in Peer  Reviews
  • Participate in Team Huddles
  • May supervise Physician Assistants and countersign their medical records
  • May have a Collaborative Agreement with Nurse Practitioners
  • Provide consultation to Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners as needed
  • May be asked to participate in interviewing for vacant clinical positions, orientation of other medical providers, training of employees involved in delivery of clinical services
  • May be involved in directing workflow in the clinic as needed
  • Provide input on performance of employees when asked to do so
  • Address complaints from patients
  • Identify and resolve problems within the assigned clinic in collaboration with members of management
