The Physician Office Specialist I facilitates patient visits and supports the health care provider by anticipating and responding to patient needs and requests of the health care team. This role allows providers to focus on patient care by coordinating and scheduling appointment schedules and daily activities, serving as a direct contact and resource to the patient. The specialist utilizes clerical skills, technical skills, and excellent customer service techniques. Key responsibilities include accurately registering new patients, updating demographic and insurance information, providing face-to-face customer service for billing and insurance questions, assisting with negotiating authorizations and pre-certifications within the Mayo system, verifying insurance benefits, and systematically documenting verification sources. The position also involves collecting co-payments, pre-care deposits, consultation fees, and other account payments from patients, as well as documenting and reconciling cash received.
