About The Position

The position involves assisting the physician in assessing the needs of patients based on data collected through history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage, and analysis of diagnostic data. The role includes performing direct patient care such as triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions. The candidate will prepare patients to be seen by the physician and formulate the initial database by systematically collecting pertinent information through communication with patients and families, observation, and objective evaluation. This includes vital signs, history, chief complaint, and documentation of all relevant information in the patient's chart. The position also requires performing specialized tests, preparing medications, assisting with treatments, scheduling appointments, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as an LPN in good standing required.
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification must be obtained within 90-days of hire.
  • Computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the physician in assessing the needs of patients based on data collected.
  • Performs direct patient care including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions.
  • Formulates the initial database by collecting pertinent information through communication with patients and families.
  • Records database in patient's medical record as appropriate.
  • Performs specialized tests such as audiometry, electrocardiography, inhalation treatments, and selected laboratory procedures.
  • Prepares medications and gives injections as ordered by the physician.
  • Assists physician with treatments and procedures as needed.
  • Provides patient education appropriate to the situation.
  • Schedules testing and referral appointments for patients per physician instructions.
  • Consults with patients on telephone calls and performs follow-up calls as necessary.
  • Cleans and straightens examination rooms between patients according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintains medical supply inventory and checks expiration dates on drugs and vaccines.
  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of all equipment needed to perform duties.
  • Promotes a climate conducive to learning through encouragement of co-worker's education.
  • Assists with overall review of quality of patient care by performing chart audits.
  • Actively participates in departmental QA projects.
  • Projects a positive image of the practice.
  • Demonstrates willingness to perform the duties of other department personnel when workload requires.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
