About the position

The position involves performing baseline and periodic medical qualification and surveillance exams based on unique job codes or work task hazards. Responsibilities include ordering immunizations and chemoprophylaxis prescriptions, interpreting lab tests, audiograms, chest x-rays, electrocardiograms, and spirometry necessary for medical surveillance or determination of medical qualification. The incumbent will evaluate the ability to perform essential job functions for continued work, return to work, or in response to requests for reasonable accommodation. Additionally, the role serves as an Occupational Medicine consultant supporting MTF policy revision and clinical decision support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform baseline and periodic medical qualification and surveillance exams based on unique job code or work task hazard.
  • Order immunizations and chemoprophylaxis prescriptions.
  • Order and interpret lab tests, audiograms, chest x-rays, electrocardiograms, and spirometry necessary for medical surveillance or determination of medical qualification.
  • Evaluate ability to perform essential job functions for continued work, return to work, or in response to request for reasonable accommodation.
  • Serve as Occupational Medicine consultant supporting MTF policy revision and clinical decision support.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment.
  • Tuberculosis testing is required.
  • Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements apply.
  • Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination is required.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter.
  • Immunization screening is required, including Hepatitis B for positions with direct patient contact.
  • Must fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate clinical privileges.
  • Designated Mission Essential; required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather, or other emergency situations.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine preferred.
