Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Lead Physician performs all the duties of an ASU Health Services (ASUHS) physician and performs educational, administrative and supervisory duties of considerable complexity for an assigned medical section. As an ASUHS physician, the Lead Physician is responsible for the practice of medicine including diagnosis and treatment of university students, faculty and staff in an ambulatory, out-patient care facility; providing service and educational activities (e.g. health promotion, wellness concepts and preventive health care) within the university; consulting with and supervising other healthcare professionals; and teaching undergraduate and graduate students and post-graduate resident physicians. Other responsibilities may include provision of medical care to the disabled, providing and/or supervising women's health care or providing other specialty services. The Lead Physician educational, administrative and supervisory duties include consultation with and supervision of other healthcare professionals (physicians, nurse practitioners, etc.); directing continuing educational programs for healthcare professionals or affiliated healthcare professionals (trainers, physical therapists, medical assistants, etc.) for assigned medical section; teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, medical students, and post-graduate resident physicians; and serving as the primary contact for research activities of the assigned medical section. In the absence of the Medical Director, the Lead Physician will assume the duties of the Medical Director for the assigned medical section.
