About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. This is an Open Continuous Announcement and may be extended beyond the current closing date until the position(s) are filled. Clinical duties will focus on arrhythmia management. The physician should demonstrate the ability to work well with a large, diverse, and dedicated patient care staff. The position includes a faculty appointment at the affiliated Louisiana State University Health and Science Center commensurate with qualifications. Duties will include clinical practice, and teaching Cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students .Other responsibilities include but not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Performs inpatient or outpatient cardiovascular consultation services.
  • Perform standard diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures temporary pacing and permanent device (Pacemakers, Loop recorders, AICD and bi-ventricular devices) implantation, direct current cardioversions, electrocardiogram interpretation, Holter monitor and ambulatory rhythm interpretation.
  • Serves as academic faculty for cardiovascular fellowship training program.
  • Provides medical consultative services and chart review for quality assurance purposes or risk management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within their scope of practice.
  • Research experience and interest desirable.
  • Teaching responsibilities as assigned and approved, including effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordination of educational activities including planning, evaluating, and documenting.
  • This physician will perform history and physical examination, evaluate problems, and define the appropriate therapeutic approach. This physician will see outpatients in the outpatient clinics at the Overton Brooks VAMC.
  • This physician is responsible for support, cooperation, and participation in meeting the goals and objectives of the Medical Care Cost Recovery Program. This includes assuring the cooperation of subordinates in performing tasks which may directly or indirectly contribute to the accomplishment of the MCCR collection goals and the fulfillment of the requirements of Public Laws, VA Directives, legislation, and local initiatives which govern the MCCR program.
