About The Position

Diagnoses and treats a variety of diseases and injuries in general practice by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Elicits and records information about patient's medical history. • Examines patient to determine general physical condition. • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition. Analyzes reports and findings of tests and of examination, and diagnoses condition. Refers to medical specialists or other practitioners for specialized treatment. • Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs and performs minor surgery or procedures as appropriate to specialty training. Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases. Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease. Provides emergency medical treatment as presented up to the level of license, training, facilities, or resources available. • Provides prenatal care to pregnant women as pre-arranged with a local obstetrician, delivers babies in emergencies, and provides postnatal care to mother and infant. • Reports births, deaths, and outbreaks of contagious diseases to governmental authorities as required. • Makes house and emergency calls within the scope of service to attend to patients unable to visit the center or to whom doing so would be a hardship. • Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, eligibility for insurance coverage surgical procedures, disability. • Represents the organization during itineration, mission events, etc. • Strives to meet spiritual, mental, and emotional needs of patients as appropriate and available. • Oversee mid-level providers. • Call coverage will be required for after hours and weekends. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Directly supervises assistants (nurses or medical assistants) especially those to whom medical tasks or procedures have been delegated. • Assists the Chief Medical Officer with performance improvement projects and with annual evaluations of directly supervised staff as needed or requested. • Oversee mid-level providers. All employees must embrace a team-based approach to patient care and understand that each role is important to our success. • Team members must demonstrate excellent team communication and coordination to provide quality patient care. • Care coordination includes communicating with community organizations, health plans, facilities, and specialists. • Care team members understand and embrace the concept of population management and proactively address the needs of patients and families served by this practice. • Team members must demonstrate skill and knowledge related to effective communication with vulnerable patient populations. • Team members must participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities within the organization to ensure patients receive high-quality care. • All team members will be involved in the process of improving quality incomes. • Team members will participate in the review and evaluation processes of practice performance and help to identify opportunities for improvement. • Team members will participate in Grace Health's advocacy program. • On occasion, physicians may be required to provide cross coverage for other area providers. Due to the health professional shortage in this area providing non-health center patients for other providers can be required to cover sickness or vacation. This cross coverage is provided to ensure ongoing medical care of community patients. GENERAL DUTIES: • Follows policies and procedures of the office, including administrative, clinical, quality assurance, and personnel • Maintains good attendance (daily, meetings, and other assignment tasks) • Maintains timely documentation of all work assignments • Maintains patient confidentiality • Routinely keeps supervisor informed about attendance and job assignments • Flexible in being able to multitask • Works effectively and at an efficient pace • Works cooperatively with providers, administration, and peers

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a high level of proficiency.
  • Must have a medical license or be license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Typically, this includes a Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited university and documented clinical rotations, residencies, fellowships, etc.
  • Must be licensed as a Medical Doctor in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and hold a class 2-5 certification with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
