About The Position

Under the direct administrative supervision of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service Chief, the Physician - General Physiatrist/Amputee Medical Director provides leadership and consultations for the outpatient amputee clinic, TBI clinic, musculoskeletal clinic and provides direct and comprehensive patient care to the veterans involved in the clinic. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 29th, 2025. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Sets priorities, delegate tasks, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Have skill in managing and directing the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives, and ability to devise ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, and staffing.
  • Responsible for Performance measures relative to the Amputee PM&R program and monitors as well as promoting adherence to VA regulations and Joint Commission standards, OIG requirements and SOARS guidelines.
  • Assists with PM&R Service peer reviews including the Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) of the staff physiatrists.
  • Participates in the selection of qualified personnel, and additional administrative processes, creating and approving policies for the continued improvement of processes.
  • Initiates interdisciplinary team activities to achieve optimum interdepartmental cooperation to assure the quality patient care is maintained or improved.
  • Is responsible for the progressive improvement of the service delivery, which may include programmatic participation in initiatives within the facility.
  • Plans, leads, and provides educational opportunities for staff, patients and families while supporting staff education and certification relative to Amputee PM&R program.
  • Develops and monitors compliance with VHA Compliance and Business Integrity practice standards and guidelines on documentation, workload, data entry, ethical practice and service delivery relative to Amputee PM&R program.
  • Assists with credentialing, including primary source verification of degree and license or state certification.
  • Collaboration with Human Resources to track required licensure and/or certification for all CPOs, including continuing education requirements, license renewal, and other requirements Physiatrists must meet to deliver appropriate care.
  • The Amputee Medical Director within Physical Medicine and Rehab must have knowledge of and ability to apply advanced professional knowledge in physiatry, spinal cord injury, amputee, and neuromuscular and musculoskeletal diseases along with the required techniques to address the full range of veteran populations.
  • Provides professional advice and consultation in areas related to physiatry medicine and rehabilitation;
  • Performs physiatry evaluations upon referral from primary care providers and other providers at VA NorCal and its CBOCs as well as inter-facility consults.
  • Providing a full range of care with complicated bracing needs for patients that have complex physical, behavioral, and psychosocial problems, requiring individualized, comprehensive care from dedicated specialists and medical consults.
  • Provides supervision to medical students and residents.
