Physician, Fellow - Surgical Critical Care

About The Position

The WakeMed Physician, Fellow will participate in the clinical evaluation and care of patients in a specific specialty area in a variety of patient care settings with sufficient frequency to achieve the competencies required by their discipline under the supervision of the attending physicians within the specified specialty. The Physician, Fellow will focus on the advanced training necessary for independent practice in the specialty area of study. Fellows may write orders and progress notes in patient charts, assess patients' status, perform history and physical, develop treatment plan, perform rounds, order tests/examinations/medications, arrange discharge and aftercare, provide patient education, perform procedures and assist in surgery which are specified by each fellowship program director, although attending physicians retain responsibility for the care of patients seen by fellows. The Physician, Fellow may only perform those procedures for which the attending physician has privileges. Once the fellow has performed the appropriate number of procedures in a competent fashion the fellowship program director will provide notification that the fellow is eligible to be certified to perform the procedure without direct supervision. Assume progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to fellow's level of education, ability and experience. Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other learners which may include residents and/or students. Fellow will also participate in appropriate institutional committees and councils whose actions affect their education and/or patient care including, but not limited to quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Abide by all WakeMed Health & Hospitals policies and procedures, including the provisions of the GME Policy and Procedure Manual, the fellow training programs and the regulations of any affiliated institution to which the fellow may be assigned.
