About The Position

This position is for a professional nursing role within the Federal system, requiring applicants to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in previous positions, including total hours worked per week. The position allows for applicants who are currently enrolled in a nursing program and expect to complete their education within 9 months to be considered tentatively qualified. Basic requirements include a graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited nursing program and a current, active nursing license. Minimum qualifications vary by grade level, with specific educational and experience requirements outlined for GS-05, GS-07, and GS-09 levels.

Requirements

  • Graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse.
  • Experience in a specialty area of nursing may be required for GS-9 and above.
  • For GS-05: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or diploma/associate degree with one year of professional nursing experience.
  • For GS-07: Bachelor's degree in Nursing with one year of professional nursing experience or diploma/associate degree with two years of experience.
  • For GS-09: Master's degree in professional nursing or one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-7.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assess patients' clinical conditions.
  • Formulate nursing diagnoses appropriate to patients' needs.
  • Set up and operate general nursing equipment.
  • Administer medication and document nursing activities regarding direct patient care.
  • Contribute to the development of a plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Provide nursing interventions based on established plans of care and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate nursing leadership in providing technical guidance to other nursing personnel.
