About The Position

Stay Amazing Physician Extender/Athletic Trainer – Orthopedics and Sports Medicine– Full Time Days - NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Hudson Valley Medical Group NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups (NYPMG) are part of the physician enterprise of NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic health care delivery systems affiliated with two world-renowned medical schools. Through primary care and multispecialty medical practices, the physicians and other health care professionals of NYPMG, in collaboration with ColumbiaDoctors and Weill Cornell Physicians, provide families with high quality, patient-centered care close to home in the New York metropolitan area. This position assists the physician in providing quality care to patients by accurately determining and communicating the patient's current and previous medical condition, utilizing triage skills, taking patient histories, performing initial evaluations, providing instruction on exercise prescriptions and general patient education while helping to maintain patient flow.

Requirements

  • NY State ATC License.
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.
  • Certification through NATABOC.
  • Current licensure maintained.
  • BLS/AED certification.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the National Athletic Training Association (NATA).
  • Knowledge of Physical Therapy practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred in Athletic Training from an Accredited Institution.
  • Prior experience working in orthopedic practice preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fitting the patient with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other various durable medical equipment as directed by the attending physician.
  • Educating the patient on the appropriate use of the equipment provided to the patient.
  • Preparing patients for injections that will be performed by the attending physician.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting the area to be injected and preparing materials to be utilized both prior to and after the injection.
  • Removing sutures or staples and providing dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician.
  • Counseling patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes.
  • Reviewing pre-operative instructions and explaining the surgical process to patients.
  • Formulating, coordinating and updating patient care plans from pre-operative to post-operative.
  • Collecting pre-operative clearance data to be shared with physicians.
  • Assisting with patient positioning, retraction, suction, and wound closure at the discretion of the physician.
  • Reviewing post-operative discharge instructions with patients including wound care and pain management.
  • Setting up examination rooms at the start of each day and cleaning rooms in-between patient visits and at the end of the day.
  • Performing administrative aspects of patient care, i.e. schedules, attendance records, charges, insurance requirements, etc.
  • Ensuring documentation is in accordance with the department policy.
  • Ensuring all DME supplies are in stock and compliant with the needs of the practice.
