Opportunity Information Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services Sutter East Bay Medical Group (Berkeley/Oakland, California) Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG) is seeking an experienced, innovative, and collaborative Oncologist to serve as Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services, leading the Sutter East Bay Comprehensive Cancer Program. As part of Sutter Health’s East Bay Division—one of six regional divisions within the not-for-profit, integrated Sutter Health system—this role offers an exceptional opportunity to build and shape a world-class, integrated oncology program. Sutter Health operates hospitals, clinics, and care centers across Northern and Central California, with a strong commitment to delivering coordinated, patient-centered care. In November 2026, Sutter will open a state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer center in Oakland, co-branded with an NCI-designated academic medical center. Ahead of this milestone, the Executive Medical Director will play a critical role in leading strategic program development for this center and other key oncology centers in the East Bay. About Sutter’s Advanced Cancer Service Line Sutter’s network includes 22 cancer centers and 250+ specialists, providing coordinated, high-quality care to more than 19,000 patients annually. Key program highlights include: Cutting-edge therapies: CAR T-cell therapy, GammaTile neurosurgery, and tattoo-free radiation. AI-powered early detection: Breast and lung cancer screenings at 60+ locations. Multidisciplinary care: Tumor boards and personalized treatment plans guided by the latest research. Comprehensive support: 24/7 patient assistance, digital concierge tools, survivorship programs. Research excellence: Participation in over 150 clinical trials. National accreditations: Commission on Cancer – Integrated Network Cancer Program, National Accreditation Program for Breast and Rectal Cancer, QOPI, Program of Excellence, and ACR accreditation for Radiation Oncology.

Requirements

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO (or equivalent), with fellowship training in Medical or Surgical Oncology.
  • Board certified and eligible for a California medical license.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in clinical excellence and physician leadership.
  • Proven experience directing oncology programs, preferably in a community setting with academic collaboration.
