About The Position

The Manuals is seeking a physician with writing and editing experience for the unique position of Physician Editor. This role offers an opportunity to leverage medical knowledge and editorial skills to contribute to medical education and clinical decision support for healthcare professionals, as well as provide high-quality content for patient education. The successful candidate will join a digital health team with a global impact. The Manuals' internal editorial team collaborates with over 400 leading academic external authors and editors to deliver high-quality medical information to professionals and patients. As a trusted resource since 1899, The Manuals has evolved into an innovative digital platform accessible via web, mobile apps, and electronic health record integrations, reaching a global audience with free medical content translated into 16 languages. Physician Editors are responsible for maintaining and improving both Professional and Consumer versions of the company's Manuals and related content, working as part of an editorial team that includes other Physician Editors, Staff Editors, and a Marketing Team.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • At least five years of clinical experience

  • Current clinical activity, ideally specialized in internal medicine, adult primary care, infectious disease, or emergency medicine
  • Experience in an academic medical institution

  • Self-motivated, with excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to write on medical subjects for a lay audience
  • Interest in, and ability to maintain clinical work (up to 10%)

Responsibilities

  • Edit and write professional and consumer versions of our company's Manuals chapters to ensure completeness, accuracy, currency, style consistency, and clinical relevance.
  • Collaborate with external contributors and internal staff editors and other physician editors to ensure content quality and meet editorial workflow goals.
  • Participate in additional Manuals projects as directed by management.
  • Help identify, develop, and review digital content for The Manuals, such as videos, images, quizzes, cases, and other enhanced content.
  • Work with The Manuals’ marketing and awareness team to develop and review social media campaigns and content, editorials, and other content, as needed.
  • Assist in the development and training of staff editors if needed.
  • Participate in appropriate professional company activities.
  • Participate in promotional activities (eg, trade shows) for The Manuals.
  • Remain clinically astute and well informed.
