About The Position

The Physician Coding Liaison II - New Clinician Onboarding Specialist is responsible for providing coding education and support to new clinicians within the organization. This role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including Physicians, Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs), and Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), to ensure proper coding practices and documentation standards are met. The Liaison will conduct orientations, provide feedback on coding practices, and assist in resolving coding-related queries. This position is fully remote and requires a commitment to ongoing education and communication with clinical teams.

Requirements

  • Coding Associate (CCA) certification or equivalent certification from AHIMA or AAPC.
  • Advanced training beyond High School in Medical Coding Specialist.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in expert-level professional coding.
  • At least 3 years of experience educating/training licensed clinicians.
  • Specialty Medical Coding Certification in the area(s) supported.

Responsibilities

  • Provides service line/specialty specific coding/documentation education and feedback related to coding changes.
  • Partners with CMOs to standardize coding processes across a specific specialty.
  • Shares and/or presents coding/documentation education presentations to CMOs, Physicians/APCs, and Senior Director Administrators.
  • Conducts orientations for all Physicians/APCs, residents/students, and clinical team members on specialty specific coding and documentation education.
  • Performs new clinician documentation reviews for specialty specific coding and documentation feedback.
  • Coordinates responses to questions and feedback from Physicians/APCs, residents/students, and various partners.
  • Queries Physicians/APCs when prompted by Professional Coding Department production coders.
  • Monitors and resolves charge sessions requiring additional information for assigned clinicians.
  • Attends and provides coding and documentation information to CMOs, Physicians/APCs, and Clinic/Site Department meetings.
  • Collaborates with PSA Liaison to provide coding/documentation guidance on Epic order entry and charge capture.
  • Develops monthly service line/specialty newsletters to educate and communicate updates.
  • Identifies service line/specialty specific trending data and opportunities for documentation improvement.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other regulatory requirements.
