About the position

The Physician Coding Educator position is responsible for creating clinician coding and documentation education for both SE and MW regions. This role involves collaboration with various leadership teams, including Coding, IT, Org Development, Revenue Cycle, and Compliance. The educator will present coding and documentation education through in-person classes and virtual offerings, support the development of educational presentations, and identify coder educational needs to enhance coding educational programs. The position is 100% remote and requires a commitment to staying current with trends in adult learning concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Coding Leadership, IT leadership, Org development, Revenue Cycle leadership, Compliance leadership, etc.
  • Present coding and documentation education for initial training and continuing education purposes to both coders and clinicians.
  • Support the development of coding educational presentations, tools, and documents.
  • Identify, trend, and report coder educational needs to ensure appropriate educational opportunities are met.
  • Enhance coding educational programs by providing one-on-one, follow-up, and refresher sessions.
  • Stay current with trends in adult learning concepts and apply those concepts to education and training.
  • Maintain education/training schedules and utilize Learning Connection, ATMS, Skype, or Teams for scheduling.
  • Develop and maintain web-based coding education programs.
  • Assign lessons to coders, report results, track progress, and identify further education needs.
  • Evaluate the success of educational offerings and modify as appropriate.
  • Create educational programs with established objectives and ensure documentation according to standards.
  • Complete all research, writing, and instructions associated with each educational program.
  • Provide comprehensive 'train the trainer' sessions for all trainers presenting the material.

Requirements

  • Coding Associate (CCA) certification issued by AHIMA, or
  • Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) certification issued by AHIMA, or
  • Health Information Administrator (RHIA) registration issued by AHIMA, or
  • Health Information Technician (RHIT) registration issued by AHIMA, or
  • Professional Coder (CPC) certification issued by AAPC, or
  • Specialty Coding Professional (SCP) certification issued by BMSC, or
  • Professional Medical Coding Instructor (CPC-I) certification issued by AAPC, and
  • Specialty Medical Coding Certification issued by AAPC.
