About The Position

This position is a full-time remote opportunity within the Enterprise Revenue Cycle - Facility Coding Academy. The role involves professional production coding experience and requires collaboration with various leadership teams including Coding, IT, Org Development, Revenue Cycle, and Compliance. The primary focus is on presenting coding and documentation education, which may include in-person classes and virtual offerings, for both coders and clinicians. The position supports the development of educational presentations, tools, and documents, and identifies coder educational needs to ensure appropriate educational opportunities are met. The role also involves maintaining education/training schedules and utilizing various platforms to schedule presentations throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Coding Associate (CCA) certification or equivalent certification from AHIMA or AAPC.
  • Advanced training beyond High School in Medical Coding Specialist.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in medical coding.
  • Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Expert knowledge in principles of adult learning concepts.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office or similar products.
  • Superior organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Coding Leadership, IT leadership, Org development, Revenue Cycle leadership, Compliance leadership, etc.
  • Present coding and documentation education for initial training and continuing education purposes.
  • Support the development of coding educational presentations, tools, and documents.
  • Identify, trend, and report coder educational needs.
  • Enhance coding educational programs by providing one-on-one, follow-up, and refresher sessions.
  • Stay current with trends in adult learning concepts and apply them to education and training.
  • Maintain education/training schedules.
  • Utilize Learning Connection, ATMS, Skype, or Teams to schedule presentations.
  • Communicate educational offerings in a standardized fashion.
  • Develop and maintain web-based coding education programs.
  • Assign lessons to coders, report results, track progress, and identify further education needs.
  • Evaluate the success of educational offerings and modify as appropriate.
  • Define new and existing educational needs.
  • Present recommendations regarding course content, technology, and instructional delivery options.
  • Create educational programs with established objectives.
  • Support e-learning development and other technology-based learning initiatives.
  • Ensure all educational programs have defined learning objectives and accurate content.
  • Complete all research, writing, and instructions associated with each educational program.
  • Provide comprehensive 'train the trainer' sessions for all trainers.
