About The Position

The Chief of Anesthesiology and Medical Director reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsible for the quality of the Anesthesia Department at Kishwaukee, as well as support for other aspects of performance including growth and development. Together with appropriate others, including NM system leadership, will establish standards of practice to ensure excellence in services throughout Kishwaukee and will continuously evaluate and improve processes supporting the delivery of care. Also responsible for medical leadership of perioperative operations with a focus on OR throughput and optimum use of operating rooms to ensure timely and efficient care of patients needing surgical care. The services provided will be customer-centered including patients and their families, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the community at large.

Requirements

  • Qualified by training, experience, interest, and demonstrated current ability, and shall be willing and able to discharge the administrative qualifications of his/her office.
  • Possess administrative, interpersonal, and management skills, excellent clinical judgment and quality assessment skills and a working knowledge of trends in health care management, medical staff issues and economics.
  • Shall be a practicing physician employed by Northwestern Medical Group and be a member of the Kishwaukee Medical Staff, with a demonstrated leadership ability and expertise in service line specific services.
  • Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other clinical and administrative personnel.
  • Clinically astute in the delivery of anesthesia to surgical patients, respected by physicians and personnel involved in perioperative services, and team oriented.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and contributes to the improvement of processes/systems in the operating room.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate the vision, strategy, and objectives of the NMG specialty or Kishwaukee department programs quarterly.
  • Integrate, plan, develop, coordinate, direct, and evaluate the activities of the NMG specialty or hospital department programs monthly.
  • Act as a liaison between the hospital department and/or NMG physicians and referring medical staff.
  • Champion select development or improvement initiatives, and organize and lead the necessary teams for implementation.
  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of NMG physicians to practice at Kishwaukee as the need is identified.
  • Provide medical coverage, reviewing questionable orders as requested, communicating with the ordering physician, and rewriting orders for the patient as needed.
  • Develop, implement, review and approve policies and procedures and preprinted orders every three years, or more often, as requested by Administration.
  • Facilitate the professional growth of fellow physicians and other staff through mentoring, encouragement and support for education and skill development.
  • Administer and enforce the Hospital’s and the Hospital’s Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Policies.
  • Assist in the development of regulations, safety rules, policies, and procedures as they pertain to the obstetric patient.
  • Inform the Hospital President/CMO or their designee of administrative, operational, or personnel problems within perioperative services in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate regarding the budget, the effective management and allocation of resources, facilities, and utilization of established appropriate guidelines for patient care.
  • Advise the Hospital regarding the staffing, operation, teaching, and other needs, and to promptly notify Hospital of defective equipment or facilities.
  • Provide administrative direction for the medical services delivered by Qualified Providers to Hospital patients.
  • Cooperate and consult with other Hospital services and members of the Medical Staff in the rendering of appropriate patient care.
  • Organize in-service education for Hospital personnel as may be required by accrediting bodies and Hospital.
  • Participate in medical educational programs conducted by and for Hospital and its Medical Staff, and nurses.
  • Participate in Hospital’s Quality Improvement and Risk Management Programs related to the obstetric patient.
  • Assist the hospital in cost containment efforts and the development of new clinical protocols to maintain national standards of care.
  • Actively participate in external accreditation surveys.
  • Provide two education programs per year to the staff based on need and/or quality results.
  • Model leadership behaviors in all interactions with colleagues and staff.
