Sanford Cardiovascular Institute is seeking a BE/BC Cardiac Electrophysiologist to join its current group of 3 general cardiologists, 2 cardiac electrophysiologists, 3 interventional cardiologists and 3 cardio-thoracic vascular surgeons. Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit, evaluate, treat, and provide consultation to acute and chronically ill adult patients presenting with variety of heart rhythm disorders.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • An applicant who has just completed a fellowship shall provide his/her fellowship log, which should meet the required COCATs training for specialized electrophysiology, cardiac pacing, and arrhythmia management.
  • An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • For Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology skills, applicant must be able to demonstrate that he/she has successfully performed 50 ICD/permanent pacemaker placements and 25 ablations in the past 24 months.
  • If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months is required.
  • For Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology skills, applicant must be able to demonstrate that he/she has successfully performed 50 ICD/permanent pacemaker placements and 25 ablations in the past 24 months.
  • Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Internal Medicine residency program of at least 3 years’ duration, and completion of a fellowship in Cardiology of at least 3 years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology requires successful completion of an approved ACGME training program that is 12 months in length and is in addition to the Cardiology fellowship.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty /subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
