About The Position

The cardiologist position at Wilmington VA Medical Center involves providing noninvasive cardiology services to patients, diagnosing and managing cardiac diseases, and maintaining current knowledge in the field. The role requires the cardiologist to perform a variety of cardiology examinations and interventions, ensuring high-quality patient care within the full spectrum of cardiology services.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Cardiology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE).

Responsibilities

  • Perform full general cardiology examinations on established or newly consulted patients.
  • Provide consultative service for inpatient care in the Hospitalist service.
  • Interpret echocardiograms, including performing transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
  • Interpret Holter monitor studies and event recorder studies.
  • Interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Supervise and interpret exercise stress tests.
  • Insert temporary cardiac pacemakers.
  • Complete medical records in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, including consult notes within 24 hours of evaluating a patient.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
  • Participate in peer reviews when requested by the Chief of Staff.
  • Attend Medical Service Staff meetings and meetings of the Medical staff.
  • Teach and provide guidance to others involved in cardiology-related educational programs.
