The Cardiac Anesthesiologist is responsible for examining patients, reviewing their medical history, determining the physical status of the patient, informing the patient of all risks/side effects associated with anesthesia, monitoring and evaluating patient care throughout the surgical process, and ensuring patient safety. The position manages patients throughout the continuum of hospital care by collaborating with other medical professionals. Essential Job Functions Refer patients to medical specialists or other professionals as appropriate. Obtain and/or verify patient consent Discuss anesthetic options and risks with the patient Order and administer analgesics/sedatives during the perioperative period. Evaluate the patient throughout the perioperative period. Determine the physical status of the patient and plan accordingly. Monitor and provide support of vital functions, including, but not limited to, management of ventilation and administration of fluids and blood products. Airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Respond to emergencies and unexpected complications. Ability to make decisions in a highly stressful environment Prescribe medications as appropriate. Document throughout the perioperative period. Finalize Anesthesia Records Excellent phone etiquette Participate in Independence health System Medical Group meetings and leadership meetings upon request. Other duties as assigned.
