The Physician Assistant (PA) supports the clinical operation of AdventHealth with primary focus on clinical services in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The role involves participation in daily inpatient rounding, taking patient history, conducting physical exams, reviewing laboratory and diagnostic data, performing medication reconciliation, and participating in multidisciplinary rounds to promote integrated comprehensive patient care. The PA will also be involved in inpatient consultation and admission at the direction of the collaborating physician, and will document all patient encounters through computerized progress notes and other required documentation. The PA will evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic, and surgical concerns, perform surgical assist duties, and ensure proper documentation for insurance reimbursement.

  • Participation in daily inpatient rounding by taking patient history, conducting physical exam, reviewing laboratory and diagnostic data, performing medication reconciliation, procedures, and computer order entry as appropriate.
  • Participation in daily multidisciplinary rounds by contributing specific surgical perspective and promoting integrated comprehensive patient care.
  • Inpatient consultation and admission at the direction of the collaborating physician.
  • Documentation of all patient encounters by computerized progress notes, brief operative note, procedural notes or admission/consultation/discharge summary dictation.
  • Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic, and surgical concerns.
  • Conduct medical history and performance of physical examination.
  • Collection, interpretation & recording of diagnostic clinical laboratory data.
  • Ordering & interpretation of all relevant radiologic/US/MRI/NM studies.
  • Ordering, performance & interrelation of cardiac diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnosis of acute and chronic conditions affecting all organ systems.
  • Perform First/Second Surgical Assist duties within the OR setting and/or at bedside as program and surgeon direct.
  • Assist with Heart Transplantation, Lung Transplantation & Ventricular Assist Device surgeries.
  • Assist with Cardiothoracic Surgery including CABG, Valve Repair and Replacement, Aortic Procedures, Thoracotomy, Lung Resections, and Central/Peripheral Vascular repair.
  • Documenting, coding and completing diagnosis of patient's condition to facilitate appropriate insurance reimbursement.
  • Graduate of a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • 2+ years’ experience.
  • 2+ post-graduation clinical experience or one-year post-graduate surgical residency training experience required.
  • 1+ cardiothoracic specialty specific experience required.
  • Pre-Operative, Intra-Operative, Post-operative Surgical patient care experience required.
  • Critical care experience required.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) BLS & ACLS certifications.
  • Physician Assistant License in the State of Florida.
  • NCCPA Certification.
