Griffin Hospital’s Department of Preventive Medicine is seeking an outstanding physician to serve as Faculty Physician for its 4-year Combined Internal Medicine/Preventive Medicine (IM/PM) Residency Program and its 2-year Advanced Preventive Medicine Residency Program. These programs are affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine and academically partnered with the Yale School of Public Health for the public health training year. Together, the programs train twelve IM/PM residents and two PM residents, cultivating physicians who excel in both individual patient care and population health across generalist and subspecialty settings. The faculty physician will play a pivotal role in fostering an exceptional learning environment and contributing to the continued growth and success of these dual-accredited training programs. Hospitalist work is required as part of the clinical practice component.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or General Preventive Medicine.
  • Eligible for or holding a Connecticut medical license, DEA registration, and Controlled Substance Certificate.
  • Demonstrated clinical education and leadership experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certified/eligible in both Internal Medicine and General Preventive Medicine.
  • Prior experience in graduate medical education (e.g., teaching faculty, resident education).
  • Familiarity with ACGME accreditation and GME regulatory requirements.
  • Involvement in scholarly activity (education, research, or quality improvement).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, implementing, and evaluating the residency curricula in accordance with ACGME standards.
  • Provide direct teaching and supervision in clinical, didactic, and educational settings.
  • Lead or co‑lead conferences, didactics, journal clubs, and board review sessions.
  • Support the development of residents’ clinical competence, professionalism, and scholarly work.
  • Participate in resident recruitment, selection, and onboarding.
  • Mentor and advise residents on academic progress, career development, and well‑being.
  • Conduct evaluations and serve on the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC).
  • Assist with remediation and performance improvement plans as needed.
  • Support the Program Director in ensuring compliance with ACGME Institutional, Common, and Program Requirements.
  • Assist with program accreditation reviews, self-studies, and annual program evaluations.
  • Participate in Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) activities.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional, departmental, and regulatory policies.
  • Work with faculty to enhance teaching quality and resident assessment.
  • Contribute to faculty development initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between residents, faculty, and hospital leadership.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice in Internal Medicine (inpatient hospitalist or outpatient).
  • Engage in scholarly activities such as research, quality improvement, or educational innovation.
  • Support resident scholarly projects and QI initiatives.
