About The Position

The Physician Associate Medical Director Hospice position at Amedisys is a 1099/PRN role requiring approximately 15-20 hours per month. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to lead a team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families by providing essential care in their homes. The role involves working closely with patients, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality palliative care, including pain and symptom management.

Requirements

  • Doctor of medicine or osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current and unencumbered license to practice specific to that state you are assigned to work.
  • Membership in good standing on the medical staff of at least one contracted hospital.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Agency required liability insurance to complete home visits.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certification in hospice and palliative care is preferred but not required.
  • Experienced physicians with a passion for working with patients in hospice and palliative care are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide verbal certifications for all new admissions, complete CTI and POC for new admits and recertifications.
  • Provide orders as needed and prescribe and sign controlled substances in Enclara as needed.
  • Participate in IDG every other week.
  • Function as a consultant to patients, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assure appropriate evaluation, certification, and recertification of terminal prognosis at the time of admission and at the end of each certification period.
  • Serve as the physician member of the Professional Advisory Committee.
  • Conduct educational seminars, in-services, and presentations to improve quality of patient care and promote hospice services.
  • Be available for in-house or phone consultation for acute patient clinical problems.
  • Available for consultation or joint visits in hospital or home when indicated.
