About The Position

The Associate Medical Director for Hospice at Amedisys is a PRN/1099 contract position requiring 15-20 hours per month. The role involves participating in the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) every other week in person, managing symptoms, performing face-to-face evaluations, and being available by phone or email. The Associate Medical Director will also complete initial certifications and recertifications for patients. Requirements

• Doctor of medicine or osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school.
• Current and unencumbered license to practice specific to the state assigned.
• Membership in good standing on the medical staff of at least one contracted hospital.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Agency required liability insurance to complete home visits.

Nice To Haves

• Board certification in hospice and palliative care is preferred but not required.
• Experienced physicians with a passion for working with patients in hospice and palliative care are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

• Function as a consultant to patients, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to assure provision of quality palliative care including pain and symptom management.
• Assure appropriate evaluation, certification, and recertification of terminal prognosis at the time of admission and at the end of each certification period.
• Serve as the physician member of the Professional Advisory Committee.
• Conduct educational seminars, in-services, and presentations to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare audiences to improve quality of patient care and promote hospice services.
• Be available for in-house or phone consultation for acute patient clinical problems that cannot be resolved through staff, directors, and primary or on-call physician.
• Available for consultation or joint visits in hospital or home when indicated.
