About The Position

The Physician Assistant at Sutter Health assesses, diagnoses, plans, and implements medical care for patients in collaboration with a physician. This role functions within the full scope of licensure and is accountable for the assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. Responsibilities include providing medical consultation, performing therapeutic procedures, and managing patients in various settings such as office, hospital, emergency, and perioperative environments. The position adheres to ambulatory care and inpatient standardized procedures regulated by the State of California Physician Assistant Practice Act.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • PA-Physician Assistant licensure.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification for specific departments.
  • Experience with electronic health records such as EPIC.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments including obtaining medical history, reviewing medical records, and performing physical exams.
  • Provides health care services to patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Examines patients and compiles medical data including health history and results of physical examinations.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets test results.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans and records progress notes.
  • Instructs and counsels patients on compliance with therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections and immunizations.
  • Communicates with patients, physicians, and staff effectively.
  • Documents patient encounter data accurately.
  • Establishes communication between the practice and patients' medical providers.
  • Identifies and contributes to performance improvement activities.
  • Assists with clinical effectiveness studies and projects.
  • Performs first/second assistant responsibilities in surgical settings.
  • Inserts central venous catheters and performs various independent procedures.
  • Assists with surgical procedures related to liver transplantation and general surgery.
