About The Position

Shelby Heart & Thoracic is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our fast‑paced, team‑oriented cardiothoracic surgery office in Alabaster, Alabama. This role offers a consistent weekday daytime schedule and the opportunity to work closely with experienced physicians in a collaborative clinical setting. The Physician Assistant will practice medicine under the direction of supervising physicians and surgeons, supporting all aspects of patient care including clinical evaluations, procedures, treatment coordination, and patient education. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Active Alabama Physician Assistant license (required)
  • Current BLS / Healthcare Provider certification

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiothoracic or surgical experience preferred, but not required
  • New graduates encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Practice medicine under physician supervision, assisting with diagnosis, treatment, and patient management
  • Perform detailed History & Physical (H&P) examinations and document findings in the medical record
  • Conduct daily patient rounds independently or with supervising physicians
  • Assist with heart and thoracic surgical care, including: Scrubbing in the operating room
  • Wound closure, dressing changes, incision and drainage, and debridement
  • Removal of catheters, drains, sutures, and staples
  • Write, issue, and document oral and written medical orders per practice guidelines
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as authorized by supervising physicians
  • Monitor patients’ clinical status and report changes promptly
  • Perform emergency and life‑saving procedures as needed, including ACLS
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, procedures, and care plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all regulatory and organizational policies
