Practice locations can include Duke Health’s three hospitals or over 140 primary care and specialty care clinics throughout North Carolina.  Job Location Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center Arringdon - Morrisville, NC; Duke Orthopaedics of Knightdale - Knightdale, NC; Southeastern Orthopedics Shoulder Center - Raleigh, NC   Job Summary We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for Duke Orthopedics – Sports Medicine located at Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center Arringdon - Morrisville, NC; Duke Orthopaedics of Knightdale - Knightdale, NC and Southeastern Orthopedics Shoulder Center - Raleigh, NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician and other advanced practice providers for patients requiring Sports Medicine orthopedic care. The APP will augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic.   Primary hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA license required.
  • BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients needing Sports Medicine orthopedic care.
  • Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed. Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Refer general orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
