About The Position

The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology has an immediate opening for a full-time Physician Assistant to join an innovative team of providers at the University of Utah and Primary Children’s Hospital. The Physician Assistant will provide care and treatment for children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia in an outpatient clinic setting at Primary Children’s Hospital. Additional responsibilities will include education, advocacy, research, and quality improvement. The Physician Assistant will collaboratively deliver coordinated and goal-directed care for children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and other medical comorbidities. Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Provides treatment and evaluation for pediatric bronchopulmonary dysplasia patients in the Outpatient setting at Primary Children’s Hospital.
  • Perform appropriate assessments, obtain histories and complete physical examinations to develop and implement an appropriate management plan and complete relevant documentation.
  • Uses knowledge of pediatric physical, social, emotional and developmental functioning to develop a working diagnosis for the development and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation of all pertinent clinical findings in the electronic patient medical record to facilitate communication with care team.
  • Provides management of patient/parent phone calls, handling prescription needs, forms, letters, and providing advice regarding pediatrics bronchopulmonary dysplasia issues.
  • Provides patient/family education and coordination of care.
  • Provide patient/family education on the pathophysiology and treatment of pediatric bronchopulmonary dysplasia, including the mechanism and side effects of medications to promote high-quality care.
  • Counsel patients, families and others about health and illness and promote health maintenance.
  • Conduct outpatient visits for established patients with bronchopulmonary dysplasia to continuously manage their condition, medications and treatment outcomes.
  • Order, follow-up and interpret diagnostic tests, recommend care plan changes, schedule future testing and document care in the electronic medical record.
  • Draft letters of medical necessity, support prior authorization processes, and coordinate the completion of appropriate forms and provision of supporting documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including giving input in performance evaluations, coordinating quality improvement initiatives, assisting with staff development and education, and serving as a preceptor for healthcare trainees.
  • Applicant may be involved in seeing patients involved in clinical research protocols.
