About The Position

As part of a collaborative team of 10 PAs, you’ll work on a rotating schedule designed to balance coverage and flexibility. While the schedule may vary based on service needs, the general expectation is three 12-hour shifts per week. Within each 6-week period, you can anticipate: Weekend Coverage: 3–4 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) Night Coverage: 4–5 night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) There is no home call requirement, allowing for a more predictable work-life balance. Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent as a Physician Assistant (required as of January 1, 2018)
  • At least 1 year of Physician Assistant experience in a relevant clinical setting preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
  • Current NCCPA Certification
  • Active Illinois Physician Assistant License
  • Illinois Controlled Substance License (within 6 months of hire)
  • Eligible for DEA registration; DEA registration required within 6 months of hire (may vary by practice site)
  • Current BLS Certification
  • PALS/ACLS Certification as required by practice site
  • Clinical Expertise: Strong foundation in advanced practice care with a focus on neurosurgery, including pre- and post-operative management, neurocritical care, and trauma-related neurological conditions.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced Level 1 trauma center environment, managing complex and emergent cases with confidence and precision.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Skilled at working closely with neurosurgeons, residents, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care across the continuum.
  • Critical Thinking: Excellent judgment and decision-making skills for high-acuity patients, including rapid assessment and intervention in urgent situations.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with patients, families, and the care team, especially in high-stress or time-sensitive scenarios.
  • Commitment to Learning: Willingness to stay current with evolving neurosurgical techniques and trauma protocols, and participate in ongoing education and training.
