About The Position

The position will work in collaboration with the medical director of cardiothoracic surgery and the structural heart program director. This position plays a key role in the comprehensive management of patients with complex cardiac and pulmonary conditions, including those undergoing transcatheter and surgical interventions. The position has responsibility for providing administrative expertise in the coordination and delivery of patient care to pre and post op open heart and structural heart patients in collaboration with the staff caring for the patients as well as the physicians. The Cardiovascular Physician Assistant is also responsible for collecting STS and data and presenting this data at department meetings. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center (“ARMC”) and AHMC Inc. It is expected that the employee demonstrates behavior consistent with the core values of ARMC and AHMC Inc. The employee shall support AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center’s strategic plan and goals and direction of the performance improvement plan. The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but not limited to; Customer Service, Patient’s Rights, Confidentiality of Information, Environment Care and AHMC Inc initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program;.
  • Possesses good cognitive and technical knowledge and the ability to progressively manage care delivery across the continuum of care.
  • Strong clinical judgment, procedural skills, and communication abilities.
  • Able to retrieve, communicate and present data and information both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be flexible with work scheduling. Involve discretion and independent action within prescribed limits
  • Current PA-C license
  • BLS, ACLS.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cardiac surgery, structural heart, or critical care preferred.
  • Current DEA license preferred at time of hiring but required within 3 months of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre- and post-operative care for structural heart and cardiopulmonary bypass patients (TAVR/CABG).
  • Assist in procedural planning and patient evaluation for transcatheter and surgical cases.
  • Collaborate closely with cardiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in rounding, patient education, and coordination of discharge planning.
  • Support program development, data tracking, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in administrative functions to enhance clinical workflow and program growth.
  • Develop cardiovascular diagnoses, formulate a treatment plan and evaluate patient response to treatment
  • Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
  • Utilize evidence-based medicine practices using quality, cost-effective care
  • Educate patients and families regarding the cardiovascular disease process, including primary and secondary cardiac prevention, while remaining cognizant of the patient's emotional, physical and cultural needs
  • Develop organizational skills to manage a patient caseload
  • Develop effective communication and presentation skills with the interdisciplinary team
  • Prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies,
  • Counseling and education to meet patient needs
