About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA)is responsible for the clinical practice of medicine within the designated specialty, working in collaboration with a supervising physician and in accordance with an established delineation of privileges. Within their scope of practice, the PA will independently and collaboratively function as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) which includes but is not limited to obtaining history and physical exam, determining differential diagnosis, evaluating and managing of acute/chronic medical complaints and conditions, and determining the need for therapeutic/diagnostic tests and procedures. The PA will perform additional specific functions, as it pertains to the specific medical and/or surgical specialties. A graduated level of autonomy is expected and granted based upon individuals’ competency, skill set and knowledge.

Requirements

  • Graduate from ARC-PA accredited program
  • Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration
  • Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc (NCCPA)
  • BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Approximately 2 years of work experience in clinical setting highly desired.
  • Up to one year of post-degree course work and/or an internship and less than one year of previous experience may be considered.
  • New grads may be considered.
  • Prior experience with coordinating clinical protocols desired.
  • Current ACLS or PALS (if applicable)
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Team oriented individual able to work collaboratively to achieve team goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for direct patient care and coordination within specialty areas.
  • Evaluates new and/or established patients by obtaining comprehensive and focused health histories and performs both limited and complete physical examinations as appropriate.
  • Orders labs, imaging, diagnostic testing, and consultations. Reviews and interprets results to develop a patient care plan in a timely manner.
  • Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions as appropriate, following accepted standard of care and practice guidelines.
  • Enters the above in patients’ medical records in accordance with documentation best practice standards.
  • Counsels and educates patients and caregivers on acute and chronic disease management, prevention, and health promotion, adapting guidance to age, education, psychosocial needs, and cultural background to ensure safe, complete, culturally competent care.
  • Confers with specialists, attending physicians, residents, APPs, nursing staff, and/or other health care providers to promote continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
  • When applicable, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and interventional as determined by the delineation of privileges.
  • Educates and councils patients as per specialty practice standards.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as determined by patient or practice needs and as required by delineation of privileges, in accordance with legal scope of practice and departmental protocols.
