About The Position

Rothman Orthopaedics is looking to hire a full time Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant OR Nurse Practitioner) to work as a Hospitalist supporting our Orthopedic Physicians at Capital Health Hospital, Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, and the NJ Surgery Center. Schedule: Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM with flexibility based on the OR schedule + after hours/weekend call expectations Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,000 annual base salary Suggested salary is based on candidate's years of direct, relevant experience The APP (PA or NP) supports the physician in evaluating and treating patients with acute orthopedic or postoperative problems in the operating, hospital, and office environment.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Provider Program
  • Active NJ Physician Assistant OR Nurse Practitioner licensure and active CPR certification
  • Nurse Practitioner applicants must have a First Assist Certification
  • At least one year of orthopedic surgery experience required

Responsibilities

  • Assists physician during office hours, in satellite offices, and during hospital rounds to assure timely flow of patients. Participates in all aspects of patient care.
  • Serves as a first assistant during surgical cases (may be necessary in main O.R. and outpatient surgery center). (OR first assist responsibilities are at the discretion of the Director of Allied Health and the attending physician).
  • Performs hospital rounds for inpatients.
  • Provides coverage with evaluation, treatment, and documentation of service for patients requiring orthopedic care.
  • Participates in and contributes to orthopedic educational activities for hospital nursing and physical therapy staff.
  • Assists physician during office hours including preoperative and postoperative instructions.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding treatment instructions and medications.
  • Dictates and documents all patient encounters. Dictates Medical Necessity letters. Completes forms for Workman’s Comp. and Disability.
  • Discusses patient care and necessary home equipment with Homecare Nurse.
  • Prepares discharge letters and make post-op calls to referring physicians.
  • Reviews charts preoperatively and document any pertinent information.
  • Rotates with residents and fellow nurses and PAs covering the RI on-call schedules.
  • Writes, faxes and/or phones in prescriptions for patients.
  • Liaisons between RI physician and outside consulting physicians regarding patient care.
  • Assists physician during hospital rounds with post-op patients and with research as needed.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
