About The Position

JOB OVERVIEW: Physician Assistants deliver medical care alongside a physician, who oversees their work and provides medical supervision. The services that physician assistants provide may include diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic remediation, surgical assistance, and pharmaceutical prescription.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Florida.
  • BLS and/or ACLS required in specific areas.
  • For Nurse Practitioners, certification by the ANCC or AANP is required and for Physician Assistants, NCCPA certification is required.
  • Must be a graduate of CAAHEP (Council on the Accreditations of Allied Health Education Programs) approved university program.
  • NCCPA certification required.
  • Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Florida.
  • Master's degree in Nursing required. (If licensed prior to 1998, Master's degree not required by the State of Florida.)
  • Must have current Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license or eligible to obtain Florida license.
  • Certification by the ANCC or AANP in a specialty area required.
  • Comfortable working in fast paced environment.
  • Proven work experience as a physician assistant or nurse
  • Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy and recovery
  • Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-how
  • Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task
  • Caring and compassionate
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Dedication to patient care

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one year PA or APRN experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Being a team member and leader of the Orthopedic Trauma Service
  • Providing excellent patient care
  • Serving as a Communicator and Educator for Orthopedic Trauma
  • Rounding on Inpatients in the hospital daily
  • Seeing Consults in the hospital during working hours
  • Assisting in Surgeries
  • Patient set up
  • Retracting
  • Reduction of Fractures
  • Wound Closure
  • Post op Orders
  • Triaging/Returning Patient Phone calls regarding questions and concerns
  • Refilling Prescriptions
  • Goal is to have PA develop their own clinic to see patients
  • New Patients
  • Follow-ups
  • Promotes and maintains patient health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.
  • Contributes to a physician’s efficiency by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues.
  • Recommends options and courses of action for patient care.
  • Implements physician directives.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients and performing physical examination including obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and laboratory studies and interpreting test results.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations, suturing, and managing wounds and infections.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by providing normal growth and development information and providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living.
  • Provides community of care by developing and implementing patient-management plans.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; and enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experimental growth opportunities.
