About The Position

Elmhurst Hospital Center is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Interventional Radiology and Radiology team for the overnight shift. The PA will serve as a clinical coordinator for all radiology and interventional radiology patients presenting from the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient services. Responsibilities include prioritizing patient care based on clinical urgency, first-assisting in emergent IR procedures, managing the IR consult line, obtaining procedural consents, performing patient assessments, and supporting radiology-based patient care activities throughout the night.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a Master’s Degree.
  • Current Physician Assistant license in New York State.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with common IR procedures (e.g., drain placements, line placements, embolizations, image-guided interventions).
  • Experience with procedural consent discussions.
  • Comfort with managing critically ill patients in a procedural environment.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems (e.g., Epic).
  • Intermediate level of MS Office Suite experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in interventional radiology, emergency medicine, surgery, critical care, or a similar high-acuity specialty preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and prioritize radiology and interventional radiology patients from the ED and inpatient floors based on clinical urgency.
  • Act as first assist in all emergent on-call interventional radiology procedures.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for answering and triaging calls on the IR consult line.
  • Perform clinical assessments, formulate differential diagnoses, and develop treatment plans for radiology and IR patients.
  • Obtain informed consents for interventional radiology procedures, ensuring patients (or their surrogates) fully understand the procedure, risks, and benefits.
  • Round on radiology and IR patients throughout the hospital, providing ongoing care and addressing any urgent issues overnight.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with the on-call IR attendings, radiologists, ED physicians, radiology staff (including administrators, technologists, and nurses), hospitalists, and other consulting services.
  • Assist in documentation, including history and physicals (H&Ps), progress notes, procedural notes, and discharge planning.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient patient throughput to and from the Radiology department during overnight hours.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings as required.
