About The Position

The Physician Assistant provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a hospital-based Acute Surgical Services setting. The physician assistant works collaboratively with attending surgeons, residents, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to manage pre-operative, intra-operative (if applicable), and post-operative care for surgical patients. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program
  • Current Massachusetts licensure
  • Board certification e.g.,NCCPA
  • DEA license (or eligibility)
  • Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all age levels served within the scope of the position/assigned areas.
  • Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or other individuals in the workplace, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–3+ years of experience in surgery, acute care, or hospital medicine
  • Proficiency in procedural skills (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the inpatient and perioperative settings.
  • Perform comprehensive surgical floor-level care, including patient assessment, postoperative management, wound care, and coordination of multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Function as a first or second surgical assistant in the operating room as needed to meet staffing demands or support complex cases.
  • Collaborate with attending surgeons and care team members to facilitate timely and safe patient throughput across the surgical service.
  • Respond to urgent patient needs and serve as a clinical resource for patient care.
  • Provide night/weekend coverage divided in an equitable manner amongst the PA surgical services team.
