About The Position

The Physician Assistant handles patient appointments and performs routine examinations to ensure patient health. The duties include speaking with patients about healthy lifestyle choices for their age, conducting diagnostic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injuries or illnesses, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to maintain up-to-date medical records.

Requirements

  • Maintains appropriate licensing as required by the State of Louisiana.
  • Graduation from an accredited NP OR PA with the completion of the required State Boards exam.
  • ACLS/BLS/PALS certification(s) required.
  • Demonstrates appropriate medical decision-making.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Skill in applying and modifying professional nursing principles, methods, and techniques to provide patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer care.
  • Perception is necessary to observe pertinent detail when reading thermometers, blood pressure devices, and other equipment gauges.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to interpret tests.
  • Applies guidelines and procedures as indicated.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Strong positive interpersonal skills; Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
  • High degree of initiative and sense of organization.

Responsibilities

  • Initial assessment of new patients.
  • Follow-up and monitoring of patient care.
  • Performs general nursing duties as appropriate according to licensure and state guidelines.
  • Records and signs all pertinent information in the patient's chart.
  • Greets patients in the lobby and escorts them to the exam room if needed.
  • Interviews patients and records - chief complaint, past and present patient history, social history, family history, medication histories, measures, and records vital signs. Follows evaluation and management guidelines.
  • If necessary, collect a patient’s initial triage, including vitals, HPI, and ROS.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests.
  • Performs examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' condition and reaction to drugs and medicines.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of infection control procedures; strictly adheres to policies and procedures; washes hands or uses hand sanitizer before and after each patient contact.
  • Reviews test results with patients.
  • Respond to emails from the web portal or phone calls from patients on the same day.
  • Instruct patients regarding medication and treatment instructions.
  • Post tests and examination results to charts.
  • Explains and distributes patient education material and videos.
  • Answers patients’ questions during and after office visits.
  • Documents all information for charting
  • Records fees, level of service, and diagnosis to patients to electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Discharges patients as necessary.
  • Checks patient chart for completeness (reports/referrals, etc.)
  • Complete all patient charting for the day by the end of the shift or within the 72-hour window.
  • Completes all EMRs daily.
  • Checks on patients who were critical from the previous day or patients referred to the emergency room for further evaluation.
  • Participates in continuing education and different appropriate experiences to maintain and enhance professional competence.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality 100% of the time; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information.
  • Follows the guidelines established by the PPUC policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintains established office policies and procedures and follows OSHA and CLIA guidelines.
  • Keeps DOT certification current.
  • Maintains an organized and clean work area.
  • Must be flexible and committed to being a team player.
