About The Position

We are seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Cardio and Thoracic Surgery practice located at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. This is a fast-paced, team‑oriented office offering a daytime weekday schedule with no nights or weekends. The Physician Assistant will practice medicine under the direction of supervising physicians and surgeons, supporting all aspects of patient care including assessments, procedures, treatment plans, and patient education. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Active Alabama Physician Assistant license (required)
  • Current BLS / Healthcare Provider certification
  • No prior experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical or cardiothoracic experience preferred but not required
  • New graduates with strong clinical training encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive patient care under physician supervision, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up
  • Perform detailed History & Physical (H&P) examinations and document findings in the medical record
  • Conduct daily patient rounds independently and with physicians as appropriate
  • Assist with cardio and thoracic surgical procedures, including: Scrubbing in the operating room Wound closure, dressing changes, incision and drainage, and debridement Removal of catheters, drains, sutures, and staples
  • Write, issue, and document oral and written medical orders (per policy)
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as authorized by supervising physicians
  • Perform emergency and life‑saving procedures when needed, including ACLS
  • Monitor patient progress and report changes in condition promptly
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, procedures, and care plans
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation and compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards
