About The Position

The University of Utah Department of Emergency Medicine is looking to hire an energetic, professional, skilled Physician Assistant to join our team and provide care to patients in multiple emergency department locations. We are seeking candidates with a minimum of two years experience working in Emergency Medicine as a Physician Assistant. The Department of Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Clinician ( APC ) duties will include providing care to patients in the University of Utah Hospital Emergency Department and South Jordan Health Center Emergency Department, as well as additional community locations in the future. Expectations include performing routine physical exams, ordering laboratory tests, x-rays, and special imaging studies. Additional expectations include performing routine emergency department procedures, communicating and consulting with emergency department and other consulting physicians.

Requirements

  • Required: Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.

  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
  • Minimum of two years experience experience working in Emergency Medicine as a Physician Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
  • Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
  • Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
  • Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
  • Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
  • Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
  • Participates in special projects and committee functions.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
