About The Position

This is a full time inpatient based position that is responsible for duties at both the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Hospital under the Division of Urology. The primary responsibilities include care of the inpatient population in the form of post-operative patient discharge orders, organizing patient education and coordination of care with outpatient teams including follow up appointments. The candidate will be responsible for inpatient consultations for various urological conditions in coordination with the urology residents and staff. Part of these consultations may include minor procedures depending upon urologic work experience or developed skills. Other responsibilities would include hospital admissions, including orders and coordinating care with other specialties and nursing staff. The candidate would be expected to become an expert in the field of urology with a good understanding of the various urologic diseases and management. As the candidate progresses, opportunity to progress will be granted as well. This may include potential OR first assisting at the University of Utah with the robotics program within urology. The candidate needs to have strong organizational skills, an ability to work independently within a system and be able to adapt to changing time schedules. Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Approximately 50% time spent at the University of Utah and 50% time spent at Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Adjustable dependent upon need. (i.e. – as surgical responsibilities increase)
  • Takes complex medical histories on inpatients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Orders laboratory tests, imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Reach diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
  • Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
  • Counsel and educate patients.
  • Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
  • Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
  • Participates in special projects and committee functions.
  • Perform inpatient Urology procedures.
  • Potential to provide Surgical 1st assisting on robotic cases at the University of Utah urology cases.
