About The Position

POSITION DETAILS: Job Title: Physician Assistant (Internal Medicine) Practice : David Kuppersmith, MD Location: Based out of our Vail Clinic. All teams may be expected to travel to other clinic locations (Vail, Edwards, Frisco) as needed by the practice. Schedule: M-F ; + paid holidays! Status : Exempt; Salaried Classification : full-time, year-round; benefits eligible position Compensation : Our salary range is commensurate with experience, both as a PA-C and PA-S. Entry Range: $105,000 - $130,000 based on experience. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT OVERVIEW: The Physician Assistant (Internal Medicine) will work closely with the supervising physician to provide high-quality, comprehensive peri-operative medical care to patients of the Steadman Clinic. This role supports the medical evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of patients, with a strong emphasis on pre- and post-operative medical optimization, and coordination of care for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures. Time will be divided between the clinic, and administrative tasks, all focused on ensuring the highest quality care and patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
  • Physician Assistant program accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education required
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) or a related field from an accredited program.
  • 2-4 years of PA experience is preferred, though candidates with other relevant orthopedic experience and a strong commitment to learning and growth are encouraged to apply (including new/recent graduates).
  • Strong clinical skills with the ability to work autonomously under the supervision of a physician.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate ethical decision-making.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certified Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA) required.
  • Registered and licensed by the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current DEA number required.
  • Current certification in AHA or ARC Basic Life Support for healthcare providers required.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including history and physical examinations
  • Manage common internal medicine conditions
  • Perform pre-operative medical evaluations and risk stratification for surgical candidates
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, EKGs, etc.)
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state licensure and clinic protocols
  • Provide preventive care, health maintenance, and patient education
  • Monitor and follow up on patient progress, test results, and treatment outcomes
  • Care Coordination Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons to optimize patient readiness for surgery
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and next steps
  • Support continuity of care across pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative phases
  • Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record(s)
  • Ensure compliance with clinic policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based practice guidelines
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocols as assigned
  • Professional Collaboration Work under the supervision of the internal medicine physician while exercising appropriate clinical autonomy
  • Report to assigned facilities and Steadman Clinic locations as scheduled in coordination with the attending physician.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, staff, and collaborating physicians to foster a positive care environment.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a professional, compassionate attitude toward patients while fostering a collaborative, respectful, and positive working relationship with all Steadman Clinic and hospital personnel involved in patient care
  • Uphold patient privacy rights and maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and clinic policies.
  • Adhere to Steadman Clinic’s mission, values, and policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and other required meetings to stay aligned with organization objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
