About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Urology is seeking to hire a full-time Physician Assistant with an interest in general urology with an emphasis on providing specialized care to a urologic oncology patient population. After demonstrating competency under the guidance, supervision, and discretion of a supervising physician, you will provide direct care in an outpatient setting, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making to support quality care and positive patient outcomes. Exercises clinical competency and expertise in general urology with an emphasis on providing specialized care in the area of urologic oncology. Functions independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for a defined patient population. Collaborates with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care. Promotes health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena. Performs medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribes, dispenses or delivers medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place. Conducts independent clinics for selected urology return patients. Provides anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families. Documents patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generates appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence. Initiates and coordinates referrals to other health care team members or agencies as needed. Serves in a consultative or resource capacity to other divisions, the department, and the community as needed. Serves in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes. Participates in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes. Assumes responsibility for administrative activities and special projects as assigned. Contributes toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals as delegated. Participates and contributes to activities that enhance clinical knowledge and expertise. Participates in educational activities in the department, hospital, community and professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required.
  • Evidence of ability to function with a high degree of independence while actively collaborating with other health care team members.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Iowa.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous patient care experience in urology.
  • 1- 3 years experience in an outpatient health care setting.
