This opportunity is with a large, well-established regional health system that serves communities across southeastern Alabama, southwest Georgia, and parts of the Florida Panhandle. The health system is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant with a strong background in General Surgery to join its surgical team in Dothan, Alabama. This role includes a combination of operating room first assist, inpatient rounding, and preoperative/postoperative patient management. You will work closely with surgeons, residents, PAs, RNs, and surgical techs in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.   • Serve as first assist during general surgery procedures in the operating room
  • Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care , including hospital rounding
  • Conduct patient evaluations, history and physicals, and perioperative assessments
  • Manage surgical consults and coordinate care plans with the attending surgeon
  • Perform bedside procedures as appropriate (e.g., wound care, drain removal, suturing, staple removal)
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and patient safety efforts
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Board-Certified Physician Assistant
  • Active Alabama PA license or eligibility to obtain
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of surgical experience required
  • Strong OR first-assist capabilities
  • Excellent procedural competency and clinical judgment
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and team collaboration skills
  • Professional, patient-centered approach to care
  • Prior experience in general surgery, surgical subspecialties, or hospital-based roles strongly preferred
  • Inpatient, OR, and procedural exposure strongly preferred
