About The Position

The Physician Assistant, Surgery will manage and provide care for patients requiring intensive and intermediate care. The role involves utilizing team members and written protocols for consultation under the direction and supervision of the attending physician. Responsibilities include admitting patients and initiating appropriate interventions according to protocols, performing complete physical examinations and assessments, and collaborating with physicians regarding pertinent history, physical findings, and diagnostic and therapeutic measures initiated on admitted patients. The Physician Assistant will also select and order tests and procedures as approved by the physician, participate in daily rounds and pre-op classes, and intervene appropriately to assist in meeting the emotional needs of families. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with nursing, physical therapy, and other disciplines to ensure the plan of care is implemented and outcomes are achieved. The Physician Assistant will coordinate with the primary nurse for discharge follow-up care, specialty referrals, and the preparation and distribution of discharge instructions to patients. It is also essential to verify that the quality of care is documented in the medical record, participate in educational activities that promote quality patient care, contribute to the education of other professionals, and participate in research projects.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited PA program.
  • License to practice as PA in the state of New Jersey (pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination - PANCE) or for new graduates a temporary authorization while waiting for license.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
  • Certification Renewal Requirements: 100 hours of CME every 2 years, with 80 CME hours being clinical in nature.
  • Currently CDS and DEA required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
