Job Summary: The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide health care services to patients under the direction of a physician. PAs are academically and clinically trained to perform many of the routine but time-consuming tasks that physicians usually do and are accountable for their actions and accountable to their supervising physicians.

Requirements

Completion of a four-year physician assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training
Completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (which requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program.
State accreditation based on certifying exam.
Continued employment requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years.

Responsibilities

Perform physical exams and obtain patient histories for lung/respiratory concerns (e.g., asthma, COPD, pneumonia)
Order and interpret diagnostics: pulmonary function tests (PFTs), chest X-rays, CT scans, arterial blood gases
Develop treatment plans and prescribe medications and therapies in alignment with clinician protocols
Assist in and perform procedures like bronchoscopies, thoracentesis, pleural interventions (depending on scope)
Provide patient/family education on lung health, smoking cessation, and chronic disease management
Collaborate with pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and other providers to ensure integrated care
Maintain precise documentation of assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures in medical records
Stay current with pulmonary medicine advances, through continuing education and professional development
May travel to other CLS clinics as needed.
