About The Position

Recruiting for one (1) Physician Assistant, for the Primary Care Clinic at the Tomah VAMC. The primary care clinic hours of operation 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Federal holidays are excluded from normal clinic hours of operation. This position may be filled as a Physician Assistant, Physician, or a Nurse Practitioner. The primary care Physician Assistant (PA) assists with the total care of the patient's medical needs by performing history and physical exams, ordering appropriate lab tests, evaluating those tests, and acting within the guidelines laid down by the supervising physician to ensure quality care of the patient. This will include providing preventative medicine services, managing chronic disease problems and providing outpatient follow-up as needed. The primary care PA assists in the preparation of the patient to include, but not be limited to, teaching, accumulating data and medical problems, and as needed, presenting patient-centered discussion of the medical problems with his/her supervising physician. The primary care PA will act as the focal point of the designated outpatient clinic by being the contact person for all other consultant-specialty services regarding patient care. The primary care PA will ensure that the care is coordinated and communicated to the outpatient. The primary care PA will provide services as directed to meet the needs of the patient population being served by the medical center. These duties may include backup coverage to areas under the supervision of the Clinical Lead, Ambulatory Care. The Physician Assistant must be flexible in the work assignments based upon the immediate needs of the service line. The primary care PA must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the Tomah VA Medical Center. The individual must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho/social, cultural, safety and other age related factors as noted in the competencies described in departmental and/or unit specific policies and procedures.
