We currently have exciting opportunities for experienced PAs to work in our Emergency Department. We are looking for full-time staff, day/evening/night shifts, 12-hour shifts with weekend/holiday rotation. Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for the care of emergency department patients under the direction of the attending physicians and in accordance with the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing Physician Assistant practice. The PA will obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations to evaluate patients for admission, perform bedside diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, coordinate tests and consultations, implement treatment plans, communicate with referring and consulting physicians, perform patient education, and prepare patients for discharge. The PA assumes responsibility for patients in accordance with service policies and protocols. Requirements for an Emergency Department PA: Licenses: • Required: Graduate of an accredited American Medical Association-approved Physician Assistant training program. • Required: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants within one year of hire. Must maintain this certification by completing required 100 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits every two years. In addition, PA must demonstrate continued competence by passing a re-certification exam every six years. Certifications: Required: American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Job Summary Summary The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Requirements

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited American Medical Association-approved Physician Assistant training program.
  • Required: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants within one year of hire. Must maintain this certification by completing required 100 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits every two years. In addition, PA must demonstrate continued competence by passing a re-certification exam every six years.
  • Required: American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
