About The Position

A Physician Assistant at MEPS conducts applicant physical exams, medical histories, and fitness evaluations to determine military suitability. They ensure confidentiality, maintain professionalism, perform required medical procedures, document mental and physical fitness, update medical staff and databases, and complete inspections for new and previously qualified applicants. They also provide general medical care in support of military processing. Requirements

  • This position requires an active ​Public Trust/NACI​ clearance or the ability to obtain a ​Public Trust/NACI​ clearance to be considered.
  • A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.
  • Have successfully completed an educational program for PAs accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA prior to 2001,by either the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
  • Have passed the PA National Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission on Certification of PAs.
  • Achieve and maintain recertification with the National Commission on Certification of PAs.
  • Successful completion of a training program for PAs recognized by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant and current certification by the NCCPA. Credentials must be submitted.
  • Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in a state, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and maintain current.
  • May be required to work on Saturdays, and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
  • May require up to temporary duty travel to other MEPS to cover staffing shortages.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required - to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of onboarding and/ or as required.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check to maintain the position for which hired.
  • To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
  • Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification.)
  • Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification. (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification.)
  • Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note: You must attach a copy of your licensure.)
  • A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant, which includes 1) conducting clinical evaluation and/or physical examinations; 2) interpreting medical documentation and/or findings; 3) developing and/or managing treatment plans; and 4) consulting with other professionals regarding healthcare and medical issues.
  • FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Perform applicant physical examinations and assist with applicant medical processing at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
  • Ensure the confidentiality of applicants is respected and that professionalism is maintained at all times in the medical department.
  • Conduct complete face-to-face medical histories on applicants who have completed the prescreen process and have been authorized to process.
  • Conduct medical procedures used to evaluate and determine military suitability.
  • Communicate changes to the medical staff for input into the Command's applicant database.
  • Prepare electronic and non-electronic documentation used to assess the applicant’s mental and physical fitness for service in the military.
  • Perform physical inspections of previously qualified applicants to document their status for meeting standards at the time of actual enlistment on active duty and at any other time as required.
  • Conduct post-processing inspections according to the medical fitness standards.
  • Perform a variety of professional direct health care duties within the field of general medicine.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
