About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Physician Assistant provides primary health care and performs selective medical services such as examinations, formulation of treatment plans and therapeutic procedures, in all clinical venues, under the direction of the physicians. The Physician Assistant actively participates as a member of the healthcare team, engages patients, families, and caregivers in coordination of patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • One year of medical care experience preferably as a Physician Assistant in a medical practice.
  • The Physician Assistant demonstrates knowledge of professional medical practice and care protocols, assessing patient health, administration of medications and delivering care following a treatment plan.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of physician office procedures, medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
  • Demonstrates skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of medicine and provides on-going patient care.
  • Demonstrates skill in gathering and analyzing patient data and interpreting findings.
  • Demonstrates skill in preparing and maintaining records utilizing computer software.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform in a fast paced, stressful, high traffic medical office, exam room and operating room settings.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, bodily fluids and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
  • May require working irregular hours and working under stress in emergency situations.
  • May require travel to other offices.
  • Valid State of Pennsylvania Physician Assistant license.
  • Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
  • Registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for authorization to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Board Certified, recertified or eligible by the National Commission or Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Written Agreement(s) with supervising physician(s).

Responsibilities

  • Obtains complete patient medical history and physical data, reviews records and assesses patient heath status.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  • Performs a complete/symptom limited physical examination, records findings and establishes presumptive diagnosis.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as x-rays, electrocardiograms and laboratory tests and interprets results for deviations from normal.
  • Analyzes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Performs patient care by administering injections, immunizations and oral medications in compliance with applicable laws/guidelines and suturing wounds.
  • Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
  • Documents patient information and care in the patient’s electronic health record.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • Provides instructions to the patient and family, if necessary, regarding medications and treatments.
  • Advises patients regarding health and illness prevention and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs if applicable.
  • Using the Electronic Health Record, documents and bills for services rendered.
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient care including daily rounds, patient assessments, progress notes, inpatient consults and discharge planning.
  • May manage post-operative patients to include pain control, wound care, drain management and case management coordination.
  • May serve as a first assist to the surgeon in the operating room.
  • May assist with all phases of surgical care
  • May participate in an equitable call rotation covering inpatient consults, outpatient after hours calls, emergency room support and surgical cases.
  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
